Matt Baillargeon joined Champlain Area Trails in Fall 2022 and is our special Trail Junction Sign Steward. This position is supported by a grant from the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation and Land Trust Alliance with funding from New York State Environmental Protection Fund.
Having lived in New York, Vermont, Maine, Québec, and New Brunswick and built careers in transportation and human services, Matt always seems drawn back to nature and the Champlain Valley. He truly loved hiking as a university student during his four journeys along the Fundy Footpath, a strenuous 40-mile trek along New Brunswick's southern coast featuring historic Martin Head Island and the highest tides in the world.
Matt spent 2020 creating a two-mile system of hiking trails through the pine groves of his parent's homestead in VT. He has led numerous spiritually focused-wilderness retreats. Matt now resides in Westport, NY, with his beloved cat, Soleil, and their favorite CATS trails are West Valley and North Boquet Summit.
