Are you passionate about nature and literature? Join us for a thought-provoking discussion at the Champlain Area Trails Conservation Book Club on Tuesday, August 11th, from 5 PM to 7 PM. This month, we will delve into "Heartwood", an eye-opening book by Amity Gaige. The purpose of the conservation book club is to foster a community around a shared appreciation for environmental literature.

A taut literary thriller, this Heartwood centers on the disappearance of Valerie, a 42-year-old nurse who goes missing just 200 miles from the Appalachian Trail’s northern terminus in Maine. The story expertly weaves together Valerie’s poignant survival letters to her mother, the perspective of a relentless game warden leading the search, and the insights of an elderly birdwatcher who becomes an unlikely sleuth.

Alan Weisman's The World Without Us imagines a world where humans suddenly vanish, revealing how nature would swiftly reclaim our cities and landscapes. Through vivid storytelling and scientific insight, the book explores the fate of our creations and the enduring impact humanity leaves on the planet.
