The CATS Grand Hike to the Essex Inn
(A CATS Fundraiser to Promote Hamlet-to-Hamlet Hiking)

When is the hike and block party?

Saturday, May 14, 2016. from 12:15 to 7:00 p.m.

Where does it start and how long is it?

The 11-mile Grand Hike to the Essex Inn will take place on CATS hiking trails and scenic back roads from Wadhams to the Essex Inn.

Where do I park?

Shuttles will be available at the Essex ferry parking lot (2759 Essex Rd. (Rt. 22), Essex, NY) beginning at 12:15 to take you to the beginning of the hike in Wadhams.  You can park in Wadhams (2576 County Rt. 10, Westport, NY — please don’t park in the Dogwood Bread Company’s parking lot), but we encourage you to park in Essex (at the ferry parking lot or in Essex.

NOTE:  If you are a “faster” hiker, please take the second or third shuttle, allowing those that are a little slower to get an earlier start.  You will still arrive at the Block Party in plenty of time for the fun!

Will there be oases like in past years?

Yes!  There will be 5 oases along the way where you can rest, fill up your water bottles, use a port-a-potty, and meet other hikers.

Is the route the same as in the past?

No, the route this year will feature some of the newer CATS trails.  Click to download the 2016 Grand Hike Map (they will also be available the day of the hike).

What if I can’t or don’t want to walk the entire way?

Shuttles will be available at the oases to take hikers back to the Essex Inn, or back to Wadhams if you left your car there.

What will be at the Block Party?

The block party celebration will feature live music, food and drink, restorative yoga and chair massage (provided by Lake Champlain Yoga & Wellness), kids crafts, and a photo booth.

Can anyone come to the block party or is it for hikers only?

Yes!  Anyone can come to the block party…no charge.

Is there someplace I can have dinner?

The ESSEX Inn will provide a special BBQ for $15/person as well as a full dinner menu and drinks for an additional cost.

I’m travelling from a distance.  Is there a place I can stay overnight?

Call ahead and make reservations at the Essex Inn.  Let them know you’re coming for the Grand Hike and receive 25% off your stay.

How much does the hike cost?

Registration is $20/per adult, children under 17 free.  This includes the hike, the oases along the way, shuttles, the block party and a free beer!

How do I sign up?

Click HERE to register online.  You can also sign up the day of the event at the registration tent at the beginning of the hike across from the Dogwood Bread Company in Wadhams, but we encourage you to pre-register online.
